Activity | Session Detail

Displays full detail for a selected session or request. The report is divided into several sections.

Session Information

What It ShowsComments
SPIDThe session id
Login TimeThe time that the session last logged in
Login NameThe logged in user for the session
HostThe client computer
ProgramThe name of the connected application, or the library used (such as .Net or JDBC). If a SQL Agent job, the job name is displayed
Process IdWindows process id
Last requestThe date and time of the last request on this session
tempdb allocationThe amount of tempdb space used by the session and request combined
Total CPUThe total CPU time used by the session since it started, excluding that used by the currently active request
Total readsThe total number of reads on the session since it started, excluding that used by the currently active request
Total writesThe total number of writes on the session since it started, excluding that used by the currently active request
Total logical readsThe total number of logical reads on the session since it started, excluding that used by the currently active request
Open TxThe number of transactions the session has open, including those from the currently active request

Request Information

This section is only displayed if there is an active request on the session.

What It ShowsComments
Request IdThe request id
Start timeThe time the request started. This is highlighted in orange if more than 1 minute ago (excluding SQL Agent jobs and the sp_server_diagnostics process)
CommandThe type of command
CPUThe amount of CPU time used by the request
ReadsThe number of reads performed by the request
WritesThe number of writes performed by the request
Logical ReadsThe number of logical reads performed by the request
DatabaseThe database specified in the connection, or the default database of the login if none specified
Wait typeIf the request is waiting, or blank
StatusThis will be one of "running", "runnable", "sleeping", "suspended" or "background"
Wait resourceThe resource being waited on
Blocking SPIDIf the request is blocked, the session id of the blocking session is highlighted in orange
Managed Code"YES" if waiting for a CLR procedure or function to finish executing
Progress %Some operations, such as a backup or restore, report a progress percentage. For most operations this always reads 0
Granted query memoryThe total workspace memory granted to the request
Is Agent Job"YES" if the request is being executed by a SQL Agent job

Executing SQL

For requests, the currently executing SQL is displayed along with the larger body of SQL that contains it. This may be a piece of Adhoc SQL or the code within a stored procedure. Encrypted procedures are not shown.

For sleeping sessions, it displays the last SQL that ran on the connection, if available.
