Active User Requests

Lists currently running requests.

Click on the + next to the SPID to expand and show more details.

Click on any row to display a detail report for the selected session.

Click on the arrows in the column headings to sort on the column.

What It ShowsComments
SPIDThe session id of the active request
Request IdThis is normally 0, unless MARS (Multiple Active Resultsets) is enabled
Start timeThe time the request started. This is highlighted in orange if more than 1 minute ago (excluding SQL Agent jobs and the sp_server_diagnostics process)
CommandThe type of command
Blocking SPIDIf the request is blocked, the session id of the blocking session is highlighted in orange
LoginThe login for the session running the request
HostThe client computer
DatabaseThe database specified in the connection, or the default database of the login if none specified
ProgramThe name of the connected application, or the library used (such as .Net or JDBC). If a SQL Agent job, the job name is displayed
Wait typeIf the request is waiting, or blank
StatusThis will be one of "running", "runnable", "sleeping" or "suspended"
TasksThe number of tasks for this request
tempdbThe total amount of tempdb space being used by the request and session
CPUThe amount of CPU time used by the request
ReadsThe number of reads performed by the request
WritesThe number of writes performed by the request
Logical ReadsThe number of logical reads performed by the request
Open TxThe number of transactions the request has open

Sleeping User Sessions

Lists idle sessions.

What It ShowsComments
SPIDThe session id
Last requestThe date and time of the last request on this session
HostThe client computer
LoginThe logged in user for the session
DatabaseThe database specified in the connection, or the default database of the login if none specified
ProgramThe name of the connected application, or the library used (such as .Net or JDBC). If a SQL Agent job, the job name is displayed
CPUThe total CPU time used by the session since it started
ReadsThe total number of reads on the session since it started
WritesThe total number of writes on the session since it started
Logical ReadsThe total number of logical reads on the session since it started
tempdbThe amount of tempdb space used by the session
Open TxThe number of transactions the session has open. Any value other than zero should be investigated

What It ShowsComments
SPIDThe session id of the system request
Start timeThe time the request started. This should be the date and time that the SQL Server service started
CommandThe type of command
Blocking SPIDIf the request is blocked, the session id of the blocking session is highlighted in orange
LoginThe login for the session running the request. This should be "sa"
CPUThe amount of CPU time used by the request
ReadsThe number of reads performed by the request
WritesThe number of writes performed by the request
Logical ReadsThe number of logical reads performed by the request
DatabaseThe database for the request. This will be master
TasksThe number of tasks for this request
Wait typeIf the request is waiting, or blank
