Activity | 10 Seconds | Operational Stats

Seeing which tables and indexes are having to wait for a lock, latch, or page I/O latch can be very useful when performance tuning.

This report measures all of these waits over a 10 second period, and lists the affected objects with the largest waits in milliseconds at the top.

Although the statistics are measured over 10 seconds, on a heavily loaded system this report may take significantly more than 10 seconds to run.

Row Lock Waits (ms)The total amount of time this object/index spent waiting for row locks during the 10 second period
Page Lock Waits (ms)The total amount of time this object/index spent waiting for page locks during the 10 second period
Page Latch Waits (ms)The total amount of time this object/index spent waiting for page latches during the 10 second period. A page latch is a very short-term lightweight lock on an in-memory page. Page latch waits suggest that more than one thread is attempting to access the page simultaneously. Look at the schema design if this is a problem.
Page I/O Latch Waits (ms)The total amount of time this object/index spent waiting for page I/O latches during the 10 second period. A page I/O latch is taken when a page has to be read from disk into memory before it can be accessed. You may see a high number of page I/O latches when large queries are running or index scans are taking place.

Leaf GhostsThe total number of leaf-level ghosts during the 10 second period. These are rows marked for deletion that have not yet been removed by the ghost-cleanup process

Note: There will have been a lot more activity during the 10 second period than is shown in this report. The report only lists objects for which a wait has occurred. To show all activity on busy systems would be unrealistic, and might affect performance.
